St Albans Greener Together is all about learning from the stories of others in the District to help us in our sustainability journey. In this article we will be sharing a story from our member Dan detailing his experience with his e-bike.
“We got an e-bike instead of a second car. We use it on a daily basis to take two kids to nursery and to go to work. It means we get some exercise and burn a bit less carbon.
St Albans is an amazing place to cycle around, but the hills can be off-putting for some people. That’s where an e-bike comes in.
Ours is a long tail cargo bike. It’s very similar to riding a normal bike and it’s powerful enough to go up any hill around St Albans with two kids on the back without much effort. On a nice day, there’s no better way to travel. My wife and I both ride it.
One disadvantage is the weather. If it’s hammering down, we would take the car. For cargo bike, it does take time to get use to riding a longer, heavier bike. That wouldn’t apply for a normal e-bike. And they are expensive, although they are getting cheaper.
We bought the bike from Highway Cycles in Hertford, who were very helpful in letting us try different options before we bought.”
A huge thank you to Dan for sharing his story. if you have an experience you would like to share with us you can submit it on our Your Stories page!
