Our Planet Our Future – Visible Mending, Celebrating the Repair – Ancient and Modern!

From broken to beautiful, come and join us to explore how visible mending can bring joy to something lost.

Don’t throw it – repair it! Find out how you can repair an item yourself using different skills/ tools traditional and modern.

This evening talk will feature speakers presenting to the audience about repairing and keeping items in use for longer, reducing waste. The evening will be losely based around the Japanese concept of Kintsugi – where the repair is treated as part of the history of the item, sometimes incorporating gold powder, rather than attempting to hide the repair. We are encouraging people to think creatively before throwing out unwanted items (gold powder optional).

As well as traditional skills such as sewing, bonding and binding, we will also learn how to access the fantastic facilities including 3D printers and digital cutting and sewing machines available in the creator space area at some of the Hertfordshire public libraries.
