A Watershed Debate: What Does the Future Hold for Our Waterways?

Join St Albans Cathedral Eco Team for a thought-provoking debate on the future of our rivers and lakes, with a special focus on the Rivers Ver and Lea. Our panellists include:

  • Dr Hilary Marlow, Canon Environmentalist, Fellow of Girton College, Cambridge and Trustee of A Rocha
  • Daisy Cooper, Liberal Democrat MP of St Albans
  • John Pritchard, Chair of the Ver Valley Society
  • Erica Popplewell, Head of Communities, River Action UK

As pollution, flooding, and climate change continue to impact our waterways, urgent questions arise: How can we protect these vital ecosystems? What steps are being taken to address rising pollution levels? How are the effects of flooding and climate change reshaping our rivers? Experts and advocates will explore these critical issues, offering insights into the current status of our rivers and discussing the future of water management and conservation. This is a conversation you won’t want to miss — the future of our waterways is in our hands.

The discussion will coincide with the installation of Watershed: A Rivers Call to Action, which is inspired by the vitality and the vulnerability of our rivers and its purpose is to engage people with the urgent crisis facing these fragile ecosystems. Hosted for a month in the magnificent space of St Albans cathedral, Watershed bears witness to this crisis on a very particular river, the River Ver.
