Soil Squad CIC Story

Soil Squad CIC is one of the projects funded by the St Albans Greener Together Net Zero Fund. The project aims to establish a Composting Hub to empower the local community and businesses to see the true value of organic waste, transforming it into a vital resource by providing composting workshops and a weekly collection for paying subscribers. We asked Soil Squad to tell us about what they do, why they do it and their upcoming plans…

‘Your food waste has untapped potential—so let’s put it to good use! Soil Squad CIC is launching a brand-new food waste collection service in the City, transforming leftovers into nutrient-rich, sustainable compost for you and your community. This living compost regenerates soils for gardens, vegetable plots, and community spaces, helping to build healthier, more resilient ecosystems right here in St Albans.

For a monthly subscription, we’ll collect your food waste and let the microbes work their magic, turning it into microbe-rich compost that breathes life back into the soil. You can choose to have your living compost returned to nourish your own green spaces or donate it to a local school—supporting young growers and helping to make St Albans greener and more sustainable.

By keeping food waste local, we’re cutting emissions, enriching our soil, and creating a truly circular system that benefits everyone.’

Soil Squad has recently had an exciting update as the organisation has now received their Ridan Eco Composter, meaning they are one step closer to transforming the communities’ food waste!
