The Herts Responsible Food Award (HRFA) team at Hertfordshire County Council are delighted to announce that the Inn on the Park café in the Verulamium Park have received a Silver food award.
This demonstrates that the café has gone above and beyond to champion local health and sustainability, all whilst serving delicious food to hungry customers.
Inn on the Park impressed the food award team with their commitment to ensuring affordable healthier options are always available and promoted as well as their choice to make most of their menu items from scratch, often including seasonal ingredients. They also have a real focus on sustainability and have introduced some changes to reduce the environmental impact of the business.
Wendy Hooper, Café Owner, spoke on the café and the changes made:
“As a local, longstanding café, we are very proud to have achieved a Silver Herts Responsible Food Award.
The criteria echoes our commitment to sourcing & serving healthy food options where possible, along with our continuing drive to reduce waste, recycle where possible & support our community when we can.
From offering used coffee grouts for gardeners, recycling used beverage cups, LED lighting, a book nook for paperbacks along with used cooking oil recycling and newly installed solar panels, we think carefully about every action as a business and aim to lead by example.
Our food and drink offering is elevated by our homemade cakes, sausage rolls and soups, made in house with fresh seasonal ingredients and organic, low salt stocks. For those wishing to indulge a little less we have dietary options such as lower fat dressings, salads as well as sugar free options too.
We discovered the new initiative on social media and signed up to see where it would take us, but also wanting to hopefully share our deep-rooted passion for sustainability and all things recycling and reusing.
